The Coffins Were the Containers for the SoulsĪnother explanation is that the coffins were used to house the soul containers until Asgore was ready to magically summon them for his fight with Frisk. Considering Asriel returns all the monster souls, it’s possible that his power allowed the fallen humans to finally pass on. It’s uncertain, but maybe Asriel’s power allowed the remains of the fallen humans to vanish as well. The Contents Disappeared Along with the SoulsĪfter Asriel destroys the barrier, the six souls vanish. It also seems a bit odd for Toriel to leave Frisk, but it’s possible that Toriel sent other monsters to bury the fallen children. One counter to this is that the dialogue seems to imply that Frisk’s friends had been waiting for them to wake up: Perhaps while Frisk was unconscious, Toriel took the opportunity to finally give the others humans a proper burial. After the fight with Asriel, Frisk is unconscious for an indeterminable amount of time. It’s extremely likely that when Toriel left Asgore, she carried Chara back to the ruins and gave them a proper burial. The Other Six Children Were Finally Buried Venturing into the realm of possibility, there are several reasons why the coffins could have been opened and emptied. This is all the concrete information currently available. While we never see inside the coffins, the other six presumably have something inside each of them before Asriel’s fight, which are no longer there afterwards. (Screenshots taken with the power of debug.) They are opened and emptied (except for Chara’s, which remains sealed). After the fight against Asriel in the pacifist route, Frisk can visit the room and see them again. The souls are housed in special containers, and Asgore summons an extra one anticipating he will kill Frisk as he had killed the other six:īefore this happens, the caskets in the basement are closed.

Before the fight begins, he summons the six souls that monsterkind has collected so far. It’s only once he’s backed all the way up against the barrier that he finally agrees to fight. When Frisk finally reaches Asgore, he is incredibly hesitant to fight and gives Frisk several chances to leave. There are several possibilities as to what’s going on with the basement coffins. This is a great question, and one for which there is not a definite answer. I noticed the coffins are diffrent at the end of the pacifist route, Why do you think that is?
