I find reviews from sites much less biased than those of entitled gamers, particularly in the rpg genre. We all know that reviews from these kind of places are always more objective than from gamers that actually have to pay for their game, and who will never receive ad money.

As such, it does not surprise me at all, that they are pushing out free copies to review sites like this to pump up the hype/interest/sales. PoE was 20x the game this is, by way of comparison.Įdit: And just as an added bonus, this game is getting massacred on Steam reviews and it is WAY down on the sales list despite only having been released for less than a week. (And on top of that, it is setting itself up to sell a MASSIVE amount of DLC, because they only put in half of what they should have at release.) In the same way NWO is not a D&D game beyond the name and some very superficial use of the IP, SCL is even worse. It uses the D&D name to sell copies, but there is so much missing, it might as well not.Įven if you are a fan of the 5th ed rule set, it even departs from that a good bit. I certainly won't base my final opinion on making a purchase on justifications like this. Nothing you're saying describes the actual worth of the game and what you get with it, for 20 or more below typical retail price. It's also quite ridiculous to say no D&D fan would like this. This will have an obvious effect on the complexity of what you can come up with.įor the rest, again I don't think it's fair to really compare such a thing to D&D. It seems meant to be easy to pick up and start with, while something like NWN's toolset was rather complex for the average gamer.

This toolset (based on videos I've seen) seems to be geared toward average folks who really wouldn't take the time to learn a typical mod development kit. So, when this game is $10, it might be worth getting, certainly not at $40, and even that depends on how terrible the DLC ends up being.

You can put in creatures, but that is it, can't change HP, loot, stats, or anything else.

In the game, not much actual D&D at all.Īnd frankly, the DM tool set, which is supposed to be one of the selling points for this game is WEAK, especially compared to what you could do with Baldur's gate 1/2 in terms of a DM tool set. They put D&D in the title to sell copies, and that's it. But no actual D&D fan can like this thing. If hack and slash fans want to play the game for that, fine. Make no mistake: they are charging $40 for half a game. They left so much out in terms of races, professions, and creatures/monsters/NPCs that you can smell the DLC coming. Reading comprehension is an important life skill.Ĭharacter advancement is more like an MMO tech tree than anything D&D. based on the fifth edition ruleset."įoolish would be reading that and expecting a 100% inclusion of everything in the 5e ruleset instead of what it clearly says: "based on." Bought it, played it, hated it, got a refund! It's not D&D and you'd be foolish to assume or argue that it is.įrom their description at the SCL site: ".
